The keynote from HipByte is going to be awesome

Laurent and the crew at HipByte are going to announce some very cool things during the keynote at this year’s conference. If you love RubyMotion, you’re going to love this. The rumor is RubyMotion v3 will be a game changer.

Some cool new speakers have been added, HipByte wrote about it here.

I want to thank Mark Rickert again for his awesome marketing tips. I learn something every week.

If you missed the last issue, you can find it here: issue #22

Happy coding, Todd Werth (@twerth)

iOS Marketing Tip of the Week by Mark Rickert

Have you ever tried a service that offers to market your app to “millions of users in a couple of days”? I have. I’ve done both paid and free versions of this marketing tactic for my app Textables. I’m going to open my books and stats to show you whats worked for me and what hasn’t. Lets take a look at the numbers:

Initial ReleaseFREE5145$0
Price Increase$0.994226$18.32
Featured in 3 Magic Shots App
Cost: $150
Price Increase$0.991417$11.74
Featured in AppAdvice
Cost: $0
Various PricesFREE/$0.99/$1.9947280$93.60

Total promotional fees: $150 (they wanted $300, I talked them down to $150)

Total Profit: $123.66

As you can see, the paid app promotion did only a fraction of what the free promotional service did for me in terms of getting the word out about my app. I’ve yet to break even from the costs associated with that paid promotion.

In the future, I’m not going to be using paid promotional services for new apps and instead rely on more traditional app marketing channels and social networking/word of mouth.

RubyMotion Tip of the Week

Add your own fonts

If you need a font in your app, you simple put them in your /resources folder and add them in Rakefile:

app.fonts = ['VarelaRound-Regular.ttf', 'FontAwesome.otf’]

One more thing

The #inspect 2014 app is almost done, then it will be submitted to the App Store. However, you can grab it and check it out now, here is the repo.
